Ernest A. Schott

Ernest A. Schott, "Ernie" passed away on August 21, 2025. He is the beloved husband of the late Betty Schott (nee Zangara) and devoted father of Ed and wife Debbie, Patti and husband Herb, and Jane and husband Phil. Loving grandfather of Anna-Maria, Chelsea, Herbert Jr., Taylor, Nathaniel, Joseph, and Sera. Loving great-grandfather of Xavier, Etta Rose, Charlie Mae, Herbert Alan, Ella, and Linden and brother of Betty Ann Meyer and the late Robert Schott and Dolores Mills. Ernest (Ernie) lived his early years on Roselawn Avenue in Hamilton, Baltimore, MD. He belonged to St. Dominics parish and attended school there up to 8th grade. He attended and graduated from City College. Ernest was a Navy veteran of 10 years serving on several ships, most notably the destroyer USS Dyess during the Korean War. After a honorable discharge, Ernie learned the trade and became an expert in the field of orthodontics, and started his own business fabricating braces and retainers for patients, and teaching the trade at the Community College of Baltimore City. Ernest married Betty Zangara in 1956 and moved to Darrich Drive in Bainesville, MD, later becoming the loving father of Edward, Patricia, and Jane. He served as Santa Clause for the neighborhood association for many years. Ernie was a devout Catholic throughout his life, serving as Usher, Lector, and Sacristan. He also was a member of the IHM (Immaculate Heart of Mary) Chapter of the Holy Name Society serving as President for several years. During Pope John Paul’s visit in 1995, Ernie was selected to provide transportation for the archdiocesan staff to and from the various venues. He was a member of the American Legion for many years. After selling his business, Ernie and Betty moved to Octoraro Lake Community in Cecil County, MD, residing there for 16 years. Shortly after the death of his wife, Ernie lived out the remainder of his life at Oak Crest Senior Living in Parkville, MD and made many friends. Ernie was a humble and kind man. He was a devout, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He always had a smile on his face and brought much laughter to everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by all. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Oak Crest Village Chapel on Thursday, September 4th at 10am. Where a visitation will be held from 9-10am adjacent to the chapel. Interment with Military Honors to follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made in his memory to Baltimore VA Medical Center, 10 N. Greene Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
